Autopilot & first day of school OOTD

You know how you have a routine? Maybe it's driving home, and you always take the same streets. It becomes so automatic that you no longer have to think about making each turn, and you might zone out only to realize that you just drove 10 blocks and you don't even remember doing it? Yeah, that's what this morning's shower was like for me. I've been in the midst of writing, so I completely zoned out thinking about my writing when I stepped into the shower. And I have absolutely no idea if I washed my hair this morning. I think I would have washed it immediately after getting in the shower, because that's my routine. But, I have no memory of it. So, um. If my hair looks dirtier today in these pictures, please excuse me. :)

Today was the first day of school. My friend asked me earlier this week what I was planning on wearing today. And, I was pretty much like, "Seriously? Um, you realize that we're grad students." As grad students, we always work. Today is pretty much like any other day since I'm not teaching this quarter. It's a research day. It's a writing day. It's a dissertation day. It's everyday.

So here's today's outfit (I also apologize because I had a fight with my camera this morning. But I was in a rush to get out the door, so the camera won)

In my fight with my camera, I briefly tried a different camera mode. It made it look like it was night time. wieeeerd.

Okay, seriously, the last time I put on this dress was in the beginning of this year. It fit better back then. In fact, it was a little tight. I put it on this morning, and I was so unhappy that it grew. Somehow, in my closet, this dress that I had been planning on wearing through Fall, grew larger. Thank goodness for belts - especially sexy equestrian leather belts like Anthro's Three Beacons Belt (two days in a row!!!)

Since I gave up on my camera this morning, I took photos of my accessories at work. I added a owl sweater clip to my outfit (also reminds me of Glee... AGAIN!). The vintage clip was from my friend Jeanny. I picked up the owl part at a garage sale, but didn't know what to do with it until Jeanny gave me the clip. The clip screeeaaamed for owl decoration. Add a little hypo cement and voila! Owl sweater clip!

By the way, I sit on a big pink pilates ball at work... in case you're wondering what the large pink thing between my legs is...ewwww get your mind out of the gutter!

OOTD Specs
Yellow silk Forever 21 blouse sz S(thrifted $3)
Grey dress (thrifted $8)
Navy Blooming Lattice Cardigan Anthropologie sz M (Ebay $40)
Anthropologie Three Beacons Belt ($34)
Seychelles brown pumps (thrifted $6)
Blue knee sock things (3 for $2 so only 67 cents!)
Owl sweater clip (gifted + 50 cents for the owl)

Hey Lori
I see you've mastered the grown up school-girl look! it's a cute outfit on you.
I know what you mean by the routine. I feel like a zombie each morning - its shower, have brekky, get dressed, go to work. BORING!
I wish i had bought the blooming lattice cardi - its so pretty!

It totally happens to me quite often that I am driving from my work back home and not realizing what I had pass last 10 minutes of driving... hehe and reading your post makes me want to go back to school so badly.. I sometimes fantasize going back to school and wearing Anthro everyday~
In fact I am sitting in my office chair and thinking about what my mom told me on the phone last night.. "people who work sitting down all day live shorter life...."

I felt the same way when I was in grad school. Every time we had a vacation, I kept thinking, "well, I'm not done with my thesis, so I can't really relax." I'm so glad to be done the Masters -- and NO PhD for me!

Hooray for the Blooming Lattice. I love it on you, especially with the owl sweater clip. I don't have any sweater clips yet, but I think I need to add some to my ever-expanding collection of cardis.

Hmm...dress got larger? I think you must be getting smaller lady! Don't forget to feed yourself occassionally, whenever you can take a break from research : )

Hah, I HATE it when I zone out driving, and it happens all the time!! Although zoning out thinking about research sounds like a blast! Bummer that that dress is too big, because that outfit is super cute! A great belt with the pop of yellow and blue! Oh my gosh, so awesome!! :)

what a cute outfit. Really like the belt. I just found your blog and we can almost be doubles. I am an inch shorter. So I will be checking your blog often.

I zone out in the shower all the time. It is the time I plan the battle for the day. I usually error out the other way during this case, wash it again. Didn't every shampoo manual come with wash twice instruction? ;-P

I swear I black out for days at a time...or maybe years because as of right now I do not remember the year when I was 24! Haha. I know what you mean though...sometimes I wonder if I've brushed my teeth or not in the morning because it's always the first thing I do when I get up and sometimes I just don't realize I've done it.

@Erika @Kristina @Elaine @Caffeinerd @Matt Thanks so much! :)

@vintageglammz thanks! I love how you call it brekky! I'm totes going to pull that into my vernacular! Are there any more blooming lattice on Ebay? I guess the ones I saw up there last were pretty big, and you are so tiny and svelte!

@LilMissSeamstress you can still wear anthro everyday! But I know what you mean! Although I do look back on my high school and college years and wish I'd been a little more fashion competent. I coulda had a lot of fun!

@Jamie yes, one of my advisors always says, "vacations are for undergrads" Omg def pick up some sweater clips. I think I have about 5 different sets now from various places, and they make me so happy!

@Inkmark yay for body doubles! omg that's so helpful to find. In that case, I'll def be watching your bloggy too!

@Cindi omg, lol. 24 must have been a really good/intense year?!
