Dad's bday cake

I made dad a cake today. It's chocolate with raspberry buttercream meringue frosting with red currant jelly between the layers. Too bad we can't bring it over today cuz of the snow! Happy birthday dad!

Snowboarder

Here I caught the snowboarder going down the street. It's crazy because I can't even see the road! Buddie loved the snow. He made me take him out for a walk so he could prance through the powder next to the children on sleds. I got snow up my nose just by breathing!

Cowabunga

I was impresssed people even remembered to include the teenage mutant ninja turtles

Pull my sleigh

A troop of chocolaty men forced to pull batman's sleigh?

Subtexts

Some things seemed a little dark. Wonderwoman soliciting Santa?

Faces

The modeled facial expressions were great in this one. I love the
bear's bulging eyes

Child's toy collection

This gingerbread house was modeled off of a child's room full of super hero toys

Mario

Although mario's expression could have looked a little more intelligent

More mario

They were clever to have the plants at different stages rising from
the ground. There was even a stomped koomba.

Mario gingerbread

I guess mario is a super hero for rescuing the princess? I liked the
cure details on this. There was even glowing sugar lava at the bottom.

Mega gingerbread houses

I was hoping these would be cool life size houses made of gingerbread that u could walk into. Instead they were more like gingerbread dioramas made by different architectual firms. The theme was 'super heroes'. This one below featured everyday heroes. ..

Omg. I just finished my first ab lab class at the gym. Ouch. It was
both completely hilarious and a bit painful at the same time.

Jenny and zach's wedding

We're at Tom Douglas' palace ballroom for Zach and Jenny's wedding. They have fantastic centerpieces of twisted iron trees hung with roses and candles. It's pretty dang awesome. I want a wrought iron twisted tree for my living room.

Hamilton, Montana

If you are ever in Hamilton, Montana you should check out A Place to Ponder Bakery And Cafe. Their baked goods are amazing! We were in charge of getting the dessert for the BBQ after the wedding on Saturday. The owner of the Little Blue Joint restaurant in Darby told us we needed to go to Hamilton to get good baked goods. He was right about A Place To Ponder-- it made delicious things. We ended up buying a whole white chocolate cake with raspberry filling for an impromptu wedding cake. I also picked up this humongous Ginger cookie crinkle (two ginger cookies the size of Evan's head sandwiched around some frosting). Yum!

Silver capital of the world

We're on our way to darby, Montana for evan's cousin's wedding. We
stopped in Wallace, Idaho for some dinner. Apparently it's the silver
capital of the world. They had a whole outdoor museum on silver mining
that we walked thru on the way into town.

Bro + girlie

When my family came to visit, we took a trip up to the revolving restaurant at the top of the space needle. Here's Will and his girlie, Evelyn before lunch.

Begonia?

The plant that our friend Mira gave us is flowering! Neither she nor I had any idea what type of plant it was, but now I'm thinking it is some kind of begonia. What do you think?

Pinenut honey tart

I made this from a recipe in the most recent MSL. It was delicious.
Kinda like a pecan pie but more delicate and not as painfully sweet
(although it was still sweet)

Ong sun!

Look how much blogging i get done when I'm sleep deprived and running
subjects all day.

Pheonix after midnight

Here's a happy fu and Ming eating at Pheonix in Pasadena, CA. I can't
remember if Natasha (Fu's GPS) got us lost that evening or not, but I
do remember it took a long time to get there and I was struggling to
stay awake in the backseat of the car.

Ong

Ong! There's a ghost on the beach... Oh wait, it's just a sun-deprived
Seattlite.

Happy roomies

Dim sum is a serious matter

I believe we went to Sea Harbor Restaurant. Their nonfried dishes were excellent, but their fried dishes were not worth eating.

Pink Berry

We got to try out the famed pinkberry. It was pretty tasty especially on a hot day inland. I still like the place in Seattle that make the frozen yogurt with Nancy's yogurt better.

Coffee snobbery?

Guest blogged by Evan

I can't say for certain, but Seattle may have converted us into being ridiculous coffee snobs. Our journey to LA was frought with coffee mediocrity. Even at Opus, with it's chef's tasting menu, the coffee tasted of little more than rinsed day old grounds. Epic sadness.

Have we bought into the Seattle mythos? Have we become those people who always say "oh, the this or that is much better back home...?"

The one thing that may be evidence against our utter loss to snobbery was our enjoyment of the coffee at a local Persian bakery called Pink Orchid. While their breakfast items were hot or miss, the coffee was good alongside a healthy dose of tasty baked goods and super friendliness.

Real beach!

It's been so long since I've seen a real beach. It is so big and beautiful. I love Cali.

Brunch

I had brunch with my daddy last weekend in belltown at CJ's. The food was okay. My corned beef hash was only slightly better than what you could get from a can, but my dad's breakfast ( shown above) looked tasty. Their coffee was seriously weak though-a major disappointment in this city.

Daniel's party

Yesterday we got together and celebrated daniel's bday party by going to BBQ and ice cream. The ice cream place was pretty fun. It's a place called molly moon in Wallingford. They have delicious homemade ice cream flavors like salted caramel, honey lavender, and balsamic strawberry. They also make their own humongous waffle cones!

Garden flower

Look at the hydrangea I brought in from my garden. I went to Martha Stewart's website and found out you have to condition the flowers for 4 hours after cutting to make them last as cut flowers. You firstplunge the cut end in boiling water for 30 sec. Then you put the whole stem in cold water for awhile. Then you mist it for four hours!

Pretty rooms

Here's Clarita sitting in the pretty wood room at UW's Henry Art Museum. We took a very brief glance in here and in a gallery with a chandelier on the floor after lunch in the cafe yesterday.

We also made it to the gym yesterday ( huzzah for the shopkeep!). It was my first time gymming with the iPhone (ok let's be honest, it was my first time going to the gym in the past half year). I mostly streamed NPR. I did check email while stretching afterward. :) I'm not addicted or anything

More research related shopping

Its crazy how wigs can totally change a look. Clara looks right out of the 50's or 60's here.

Shopping for research supplies

Clara and daniel took me to the party store in northgate to get styrofoam heads and another wig for my study. Dang wigs are fun.

Friends!

Adam and lauren came to visit us last weekend. We made them hike up the crazy steep hill on the way back from going down to lake washington.

Bugginess

Check out this crazy bug i found! At first i thought it was some kind of dragonfly, but now im not so sure. Anyone know what it is? It is about 2 in long.

my stomach hurts today

Monday, July 14, 2008

it's all in the name of research :)

I just spent 10 minutes trying to decide between a Hannah Montana or a Gabriella (from High School Musical) wig for a study I'm going to run soon.

Well, you know Miley Cyrus is in the middle of being dethroned by Selena Gomez. So even tho' I <3 "See you again," I had to go with Vanessa Hudgens (although, just like Miley, this Disney star has trouble keeping her clothes on). After all, who could resist the "black lycra headwrap that says "I (heart) Troy" in red"?

(In my defense) They were the only primeable wigs I found on Amazon.

Knock em down

This is evan trying out my dad's wii (the boxing game). My dad ended up getting the wii fit. On the fit, i only thought the hula hooping and head butting game were any post of exercise. I did enjoy playing tennis tho!
