a snazzual OOTD and my peepers

I thought I'd start answering some of the reader questions from the giveaway post :) Kristina J and The Dalai Mama asked about my eyes and whether I wear colored contacts. The answer is, that although I do wear prescription lenses, they are clear, not colored contacts. My eyes are a light brown with some light greenish-gold thrown in for good measure. It's one of those cues that encourage people to ask if I'm Hapa (I'm not). My grandma on my mother's side has fairly light colored eyes, so I think I got my peepers from that side of the family?

I admit, I was really surprised that y'all can even see my eye color! I have gotten that question in real life, but usually I have to have the sun in my eyes and be really close to people for them to notice. I went back through my pics, and I could only find a couple that I thought maybe tipped y'all off that my eyes weren't only brown.

like maybe this first photo on my way to see BJ?

I had a hard time trying to get pics of my eyes for the rest o' you. The first time, my pics weren't in focus, and I was too wigged out by the pics of just my eyes (I was making some weird expressions with the rest of my face).

I tried again last night, but my pupils were too large (the feather was cuz I was anxious about having my face so close to the camera. It's my attempt to distract you, lol).

Then I tried again this morning, but it was just too dark, so I had to change the exposure for the eyes in photoshop for you to see them. But it just looks a little off. I think I upped the exposure too much.

which brings me to today's OOTD - only because I was so focused on trying to figure out how to take pics of my eyes, I forgot to zoom the lens back out (so you don't get to see the bottom of my legs or feet). *sigh* And from what I can tell, this is what my eyes look like in most of the pics on here. From afar and with most of my lighting conditions, my eyes look dark brown. Crazy!

I was going to go see Obama speak today at school, but I had too much work to do. So I stuck close to home, and avoided all Obama-related traffic. This 'snazzual' outfit combines two wardrobe items I had identified as things I wanted to integrate into my wardrobe - polka dots and mustard orange/yellow!

Thursday OOTD Specs
The Limited Pink Polkadot pin-tucked blouse sz XS
(thrifted $4)
INC blue velvet pants sz 4 (thrifted $6)
H&M mustard yellow cardigan sz 6 ($20)
H&M faux pearl strand necklace ($5)
Braided orangey-tan leather belt (thrifted 99 cents)

I love your creativity in getting a shot of your eyes! The feather is a great touch! What a cool eye color though! Its a shame you missed Obama speaking, but I guess some days are just like that. Your outfit is just super cute though! I love the colors and the polka dots! And what a great pair of pants too! :)

I heard on the news today that he was going to be there, was thinking that the traffic would be crazy today. Love the colour of your eyes! They are like a golden brown, so pretty :) Great post today!

funny that i had never notice people's eyes. I guess grow up in china, everyone's eyes is brown of some sort :-) and mostly dark brown. Unless someone's eye is really clear blue, i don't ever notice the color. Love the mustard color on a fall day, brights up the day and the mood.

I'm so jealous of your eye color! It's beautiful! Also, Obama is coming to speak to my school TOMORROW but I have a midterm, and I'm DREADING the traffic. ): Gorgeous outfit, I absolutely love the colors and I want to recreate that somehow in the future!

Oh man, 'snazzual' might just be the best word I have heard in a long time! And your outfit represents the word perfectly. I had an outfit all picked out for tomorrow, but now I want to pull out my acorn brown cords so I can create a snazzual look of my own.

Thanks so much for answering the questions about your eye color. I actually had been wondering if you might be hapa, but couldn't figure out what specific character

istics had me thinking that might be the case. BTW, the picture with the feature is too great. I actually did a double take when I saw it, because my eyes tricked me into thinking that the peacock "eye" on the left side of the shot was actually your left eye. Now THAT would be unusual!

Lori,

Your eyes are beautiful. Love all the close-ups. I can see how it would be strange to not only photograph the close-ups but to look at them too. I think I will try it just to see what my eyes look like without the rest of me.

Your outfit. Outstanding use of color. Not an easy task to fit 4 colors into the picture. But you do it with ease.

I was stunned by your Polyvore for the Yellow Cloud Dress. So I am hoping to get you involved in the last 2 styles as well.

I posted Style #3 of 4 this morning. Would love it if you could offer some additional comments. I highly value your talent.

Monday I will conclude with Style #4 and have a vote on the best out of the 4 Styles.

@Matt yah. I was disappointed not seeing Obama, but I couldn't afford to wait around a few hours before he spoke. Always, too much to do! *sigh*

@vintageglammz Hapa comes from the Hawaiian term Hapa Haole. It actually means half-foreigner (i.e., White), but nowadays it's often used to mean part-Asian + part some other race.

@Jess thanks! yah, I heard the traffic was bonkers. It started the night before when he had some other function to go to. He was here a few months back and I got caught in traffic on my way to a meeting...

@Inkmark I know I always want to reach for mustard colors on a cloudy day, but then I'd reach for that a lot of days in Seattle, lol.

@Cindy Thanks! And I hope your midterm went well. So cool that you got to go see Obama speak!

@Jamie IKR? My husband was so excited when he 'created' the term. People sometimes think I'm hapa because of my eye color, eyelids, and hair color - or at least that's what they've said. haha, I thought the peacock feather seemed appropriate for an 'eye' shot!

@LilmissSeamstress I did a post on Buddie today and I thought of you!!

@Spiffy thanks!

@Laura I was so happy to post today and 'kick' my eyeball post down the page, lol. I'm glad you liked the polyvore! I popped over to your blog a bit ago to see #3 :)
