Casual Fridays: Bright-style OOTD

Yesterday, I had an office mate apologize to me because she was wearing bright colors even though it was already Fall. I told her she should wear color whenever she feels like it. Poop on fashion's seasonal do's and don'ts. Honestly, sometimes bright colors are the BEST in Fall and Winter because they brighten up the grey here in Seattle! People should wear what makes them happy!

Today, you can really tell I take my own advice to heart, lol. Fridays we have our area-wide Brown Bag lunches. It's a time when graduate students and faculty get together to hear someone talk about their research. I try to dress down on these occasions (see AcademicChic discussion on disapproval of fashion in academia). Typically that means pants (usually jeans, but I chose to go with my grey cords) and maybe a sweater and a scarf. Well, I figured if I'm dressing down to basics, I might as well go bright to make it fun and interesting for me! Of course, does that make it not basic? I think this outfit ended up getting the most attention and comments out of all my week's outfits.

Btw, the cords are JCrew Vintage Stretch Cords in Favorite Fit (see similar here)

And without the scarf and belt (for when it got warmer later in the day)!

Also, I tried out taking photos in a different corner of the room (gasp!), but I had a hard time with the lighting. But, you can see my sheepy socks better! These socks are a nod to my knitting and yarn spinning selves!

I also got my new 'nerd' glasses in the mail. They were less than $4 (including shipping) from Amazon, so I figured I could give them a shot since they're just for funsies. I took them for a spin at dinner this evening (even though the rest of me wasn't outfitted nerdly-style).

I discovered Clara has the whitest teeth EVER! I think she was trying to beat me at the open-mouth jaw-drop pose. Pretty good for a first timer! lol. It's so good to be back together with my bestie after she was gone all summer!

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm going to announce my first giveaway either Sunday or Monday! Exciting (for me at least)!

What a great outfit! No one should ever apologize for wearing colors! Academichic is one of my favorite blogs to read too, they always have great stuff. Its really neat how the belted scarf changes the look too. Yay for sheep socks, and you're definitely rocking the nerd look! I hope you have a great weekend! :)

The scarf with the orange is gorgeous! I'm all about people wearing whatever colors they want - and bright is good!

Hey Lori!
Yeh BOO to the fashion industry's do's and don'ts for fall. The only way to brighten up a dull cloudy day is with colour - on your clothing AND on the cheekbones...hehe
I like what you did with the bright patterned scarf. I think it's a creative way to wear it!
Your nerd glasses are too cool for school! I want one too!! are they "real" though? or mock ones?
Cheers
Jen

Cuteness with this outfit! I actually prefer bold colors all-year long, why not?! Especially in the winter-time when things can get dark and gloomy weather-wise. Oh, and the dork glasses are perfect!

Hi Lori, I just wanted to say how incredibly beautiful you are. You have that kind of face that draws beauty from the inside out. I think your smile is infectious. It radiates.

@Lisa yes! you do, and I love bright colors on you! I'm still looking for a red blazer after seeing yours, lol :)

@Vintageglammz yes! I need to start putting color on my cheekbones now that it's getting cooler! Either that or exercising more to get that flush hehe... These glasses aren't perscription, they're just for fun. I do actually have glasses, but I typically wear contacts for comfort

@LilMissSeamstress yours couldn't make you look like a man! I bet you look cute in nerd glasses!

@Dea thanks! Colors make life so much happier so it's great that you wear them all year round too!!

@Toothfairy funny, I get that a lot, that I look like someone's friend. There must be a lotta me out there :)

@Tien wow. That is the most amazing compliment I have ever received! Thank you so much!

@Kelly Thanks so much! I was a little worried about the outfit after people at work kept commenting about it, hehe
