layering in beiges & browns OOTD

Wowzas I did not sleep last night. No idea why. But of course I woke up looking puffy. I guess for some reason I thought I'd pair puffiness with browns and beiges today. Looking at the pics, I can see those colors really bring out the puffy in my cheeks :)

Today, I decided to layer up! The weatherman said today's high temps may not break 60F, so I figured I needed a bit more bulk to my outfit. I've always been semi-intimidated by layering. When is it too much? What pieces will look good under one another? And, if you remove a layer (if you get hot - because in Seattle the weather can be quite mercurial) will the outfit still work together?

For this outfit, I tried out some layering in a similar color palette. I figured if I was going to be breaking my body up visually into chunks, maybe I could unite the chunks under a common color scheme.

and sans top layer

and with the top layer closed (sorry I didn't realize I didn't button up all the way! Waay too sleepy this morning)

I think it ended up feeling really equestrian with the beige and the reddish-brown of the boots!

I was thinking English coutry woman preparing to ride the perimeter of her massive Estate. You look like a step back in time. But where are your props? All that is missing is your riding crop, hat and horse. Doggy is ready to accompany you.

Amazing you made this work with Jacket open, closed and removed. And I love the lacey blouse hanging out below the shorty vest.

You are lucky you are small. You can get away with this many layered look. I would look like an onion on steroids in that many layers.

You do not look puffy Lori. The color Pallete works too. And those boots are drop dead gorgeous. And I don't even like boots that much. LOVE the color. And another thrifty outfit. What would those boots have cost you originally?

hey Lori
this is the most stylish equestrian look i've ever come across! it's super cute on you, not too bulky at all. It's not easy to pull this look off, but i think you've done it really well!
i got to remember to mention your giveaway in my next post...d'oh!
cheers

I love all your thrifty pieces in this look, and the lace top is darling. And the braided detail on your boots is just stunning. You definitely carried off the neutral color tones perfectly.

I haven't done an equestrian look in a while, but I might have the perfect piece to make it work. My BF bought a three-piece Burberry suit at the thrift store for $6. The jacket and pants fit him, but the vest was too small. I think I'm going to see if I can alter the vest to fit me. Or maybe I should let the tailor do it. It IS Burberry, after all...

Lori,

I am so envious of your ability to thrift and also be so fabulous!

I don't have many thrift store nearby, so whenever I go out of time always I am in mad search for one!

Looking great you incorporated romantics into ruggedness with that awesome boots!

I love layering beige and brown together. You got a little equestrian thing going on there. Super cute! That outfit is perfect for this weather we're having. Love it!

@GeoInCalifornia haha! That's EXACTLY what my husband said.."Where's your riding crop?" DSW claims I saved $60 buying the shoes from them. That seems about right. I've been looking for leather riding boots at a good price for several years. These are the first that ever surpassed my expectations! :)

@Cindy thanks so much! I'm glad maybe I didn't look as puffy as I felt?

@Matt Thanks! Maybe subliminally I was inspired to put on a vest by your vest pics last week :)

@vintageglammz Thanks! That's so sweet of you to say! I love equestrian looks, but I don't think I've ever put together one quite like this :)

@Jamie omg Burberry!!!! and for $6 (!!) how fabulous! So awesome that you get the vest!! Wowza! And I know what you mean about taking it to a real tailor. I'm always anxious about altering actual designer duds! An equestrian look with a Burberry vest would be fantabulous!

@LilMissSeamstress Thanks! You can actually find a lot thrifting while traveling too! For me, it helps that my husband loves thrifting (furniture and midcentury items) so whenever we travel he looks up thriftstores to visit too, lol.

@Cindi thanks! IKR? It's been so cold in the morning and evenings, but gets decently warmish during the day. layers are a necessity!
