ootd, Color Blast!

(Ahh touching hair and staring at the camera, that just might work!)

I know it looks grey and cloudy in this pic (and it certainly was overcast in Seattle this morning) but I dressed for the afternoon! The afternoon has been sunny and warm (high of 75F!). The weather forecasters have been describing today's sunshine as Seattle's 'last hurrah' before the impending doom that is fall/winter/spring greyness and wetness. :(

So what better way to celebrate summer with a bang than with this outfit that screams color and heat! I actually wore much of this outfit for my birthday dinner last month with my family. And while I didn't blog about it, the outfit was part of Anthroholic's weekly reader outfit posts for that week.

I ended up loving the liveliness of the combo so much! Because it's already cooler than it was then, I had to look for a cardigan-type of layer to wear on top of this outfit today. But none of my cardigans seemed inspired with this outfit. I wanted something bright that shouted "SUMMER! I LOVE YOU, DON'T LEAVE ME!!!" Luckily, I had this huuuuge yellow silk shirt that buttons up the back. I flipped it around and turned it into a cardigan (of sorts). Perfect cheeriness!

That's me jumping for joy!

Then, because the shirt was too big and boxy as it was, I pinned it down the back. The back looks a bit crazy, but I think to acheive the overall effect for the outfit it's okay enough!

That's me jumping like a crazy person :D

OOTD specs:

Anthro climbing cowlneck sz XS ($30 on sale)
Anthro Beribboned Rings Skirt sz 4 (ok what was I thinking this was waay too large. Notice that extra pleat down the front center of the dress? That's from me having to pin it in two inches to fit my waist. Oops, $20 on sale)
H&M belt (was it like $12?)
Restyled large yellow silk shirt (brand and size unknown, thrifted $5)
Sam Edelman leather sandals ($15 on sale at Nordstrom Rack)

(btw, I think it's time I embraced the goofball within. I'm never going to be able to pose all moody, angsty, and give u crazy attitude like those folks on lookbook.)

How cleaver are you to transform that silk blouse! I am loving it and all your goofy pictures. And I think it's coming to me now as a conclusion that you mastered the brush hair look down pose!

I too hate summer is over....I still have closet full of summer outfits...gotta go soon! but not just YET!

What beautiful pictures, Lori. And I especially love your use of the H/M belt. Before I read your outfit details, I had initially thought the belt was part of the skirt. Looks like it should have been there all along! And Jen is absolutely correct -- your color palette is so fresh, but rich and autumnal at the same time.

Thanks so much for your visits to my blog -- I truly enjoy reading your comments!

On an unrelated topic...sometimes the word verifications make me laugh, especially on occasions when they actually form a real word. This one: "balla."
